Hundreds of pupils have passed through our courses and they have gifted them the chance to learn a sport, garner life skills and attain sporting success both nationally and upwards. Do you want your pupil to:
- Learn a new sport that challenges and demands they get fit and resilient physically?
- Instil discipline that leads to success both sporting and academically?
Then please continue to read and register using the links below.
The next free sessions are 27th Oct and 10th Nov 2pm at University of London Boathouse, Chiswick.
**To register please email headofrowing@1863club.co.uk stating which session (they can do both) you want them attending along with full name and LOS class.** Please ensure you have read the entire page of this text.
Details on location and to book in the links above.
Our Learn to Row courses are perfect for complete beginners who wish to start the sport and learn the basics and for those that want to join the squads that train throughout the year.
Those who have already rowed elsewhere may join the squads at any time.
Please note that we expect all those interested in joining the club to have some level of swimming ability and confidence in the water. Pupils should be able to swim for 50 metres in light clothing to undertake this course and by booking onto it confirm that this is the case. Pupils also need to acknowledge this is a physical activity and the ability to partake in the sport requires a level of competence as per cycling/canoeing/rugby etc,. Underlying health issues should be relayed to us in advance using the email below.
Coaches: The group are coached by our dedicated professional coaching team.
The boat: We use a mixture of quad and octuple scull boats, using two blades (oars) for each rower. This type of rowing is safe and stable and is the perfect way to introduce rowers to crew rowing.
How to book your place: Use the links above. Please arrive at least 15 mins early before the session starts.
Experienced rowers who have already undertaken a terms rowing can go straight into our existing squads – please contact us below to enquire.
Pupils should dress in close fitting attire (due to moving parts in boats) including a waterproof top (also as close fitting as possible), underneath baselayer and leggings. They should not come in hoodies, baggy tracksuits or anything similar. They also need to come with their own wellies (for wading into the water) and a small bottle of water.
In September each year there will be a Capsize Drill & Swim Test (5pm – 6.30pm at Hampton Pool) that new members must complete – so also keep that afternoon/time free (details sent separately nearer time).
